IT’S BACK and cheesier than ever!
After last year’s shenanigans, Suffolk Roller Derby are once again thrilled to be hosting the pizza party to end all pizza parties!
Ten teams of 5 skaters will face off in an adrenaline-fuelled, high-intensity tournament to decide, once and for all, which topping comes out top. Will the veggies rule supreme once more? Or will the jalapenos be too hot to handle this year? Can those sweet, prickly, pineapples hold on to their crown from the great Pineapple War of 2017? SUR5AL WILL DECIDE.
This is an open-to-all genders, mixed ability tournament (expected to be intermediate-advanced).
Skaters enter as individuals, and will be sorted into one of 10 teams, balanced by ability and preferred position (jammer/blocker/pivot). There will be an opportunity on registration to state team preference and we will do our best to accommodate these.
As with last year, tickets will be priced at £25 per skater, to cover the cost of shirts, game-day running costs, and pizza for the after party. All dietary requirements will be catered for!
TICKETS SCHEDULED FOR SALE END OF AUGUST – TBC
There will be excitement! There will be roller derby! There will be PIZZA! Spectator tickets will include after-party pizza. Tickets will go on sale end of August (TBC)
OFFICIALS & CREW
Interested in helping run the tournament? Let us know! We are looking for refs, NSOs, track repair, announcers, team wranglers, photographers… The more the merrier! All helpers will get PIZZA.
How will the day run?
In Sur5al, every team plays every other team once, full 2 min jams, no call offs. Between heats, there will be a 45 second break to allow the next teams to get onto track and for officials to swap appropriate paperwork etc. Team wranglers will be on hand to ensure the next teams know to be ready to go on track.
Each jam awards tournament points, so the team that wins the most jam points in a jam gets 2 tournament points, a draw is 1 a piece, and a loss is 0. The team with the most tournament points at the end of the tournament wins the tournament.
Penalties will be awarded as per the current, standard WFTDA ruleset. Penalties will be carried over from jam to jam (no reset for every new jam). The major difference is that it’s 5 penalties = foul out. If a team member fouls out, their team will play their next heat with 4, 3, or 2 skaters. Once the penultimate skater fouls out, the team forfeits their remaining heats ie. Once you’re down to one skater, you’re out! Any remaining heats you’re still scheduled to play, you will default to 0 points, and your opponents will receive 2 tournament points.
10 teams playing each other equals a total of 45 jams
