The Spread Eagle
After the success of our National Poetry Day gig, SoapBox is back with a new, regular poetry night at The Spread Eagle in Ipswich, on the 3rd Thursday of the month. Free entry.
Part-booked, part-open mic, with a special ‘karaoetry’ segment too, we welcome all kinds of words that are spoken out loud: poetry, storytelling, rap, free verse, live literature, performance poetry, comedy, covers and originals – whatever floats your wordy boat. We only ask that it is acapella (no backing music) and contains words.
Each month we will have 4 featured poets from the local community sharing their words with us, at least 8 open mic slots which can only be booked on the night, and a ‘karaoetry’ segment too – for those who want to get involved but don’t have any writings with them – we will bring some for you! (No excuses eh folks?) SoapBox will provide a definitive poetry collection, with full words, for you to peruse and choose from, to then read to us all. It will be a heady mix of the classics, and loads of great contemporary poetry too!
Expect adult language and themes, strong opinions, comedy, politics, surrealism, rhythm and rhyme, and pretty much everything else as well.
Sign up from 7pm, starts at 7.30pm sharp, finished by 11pm. Find out more on our website www.getonthesoapbox.co.uk and on our facebook page (getonthesoapbox events). The special guests for December will be announced this week.
