*SARAH’S FAREWELL DO / BIRTHDAY BASH*
Sarah’s abandoning Ipswich and The Smokehouse in favour of wetter, colder Northern environs AND it’s her goddamn birthday. What better way to say goodbye than with an evening of fast skate-punk madness?
You better bring a spare face, because these guys are gonna melt yours.
Darko are one of the finest live acts that the UK/European punk scene has to offer, and we’re proud to have them back in Ipswich. They take elements of modern hardcore and mash it up with the melodic skate-punk sound to create something truly unique. Their explosive live shows always deliver shout-along choruses, flawless technical mastery and hi-octane chaos; you’d be a fool to miss it.
Italian legends Actionmen have been making crazy hard rocking noises since 2000, touring extensively around Europe. Their genre can be best described as melodic hardcore with lashings of funk, thrash-metal, garage rock and more thrown into the mix; “post-melodic hardcore”, if you will. It’s a melting-pot of mentalness and a force to be reckoned with.
PMX really are the crème de la crème of skate-punk. These Scottish legends have been going since 2006 and have played thousands of shows across Europe and North America, although nowadays it’s a rare treat to see them this far South. Their recent EP Dark Days is a flippin’ masterpiece in intricate, guitar-led melodic punk; every song is clean, technical and a loaded with mass-appeal. A pal of mine also once said he wanted PMX to be the last thing he heard before he died; they’re THAT good.
Local sad boys, Pessimist, play awesome emotional pop-punk with plenty of fast, melodic sections and singalongs. They’re perfectly capable of headlining The Smokehouse in their own right, and they’ll make your angsty 15-year-old self ridiculously happy.
